Mitome is built by Chris Masterjohn, PhD. He created the world's first mitochondrial function test, backed by 35,000+ clinical studies. Users regularly report life-changing results and the product holds a 4.9 star rating across 2,000+ reviews.
Introducion

Mitome needed a brand, a website, and a clinical dashboard before launch. I had 4 months. Here's how I approached it.

When I first looked at the Mitome website, my immediate thought was this doesn't match what the product is. It felt like a supplement brand. Not something backed by a PhD and 35,000+ clinical studies. The brief wrote itself. Redesign the website to convert at $699, build a brand and packaging that actually reflects the science, and design a dashboard where users track their 90 day journey and understand what to do with their results. Take what Chris had built. Make the design worthy of it.

Objectives

  • Align brand, website, and packaging with the product’s scientific credibility and authority
  • Increase conversions for the $699 product through clearer positioning and trust-building design
  • Create a seamless user experience to track the 90-day journey and access results
  • Simplify complex data with clear reporting and guided next steps (including AI support)
Process

I started by believing the product, then questioning it like a user. Every decision focused on turning doubt into trust.

Challenges

  • At $699, trust converts. Not features. That shaped everything.
  • Patient stories outperformed science every time. People buy when they see themselves in someone else's result.
  • The 90 day wait is a design problem. I designed the dashboard to reassure, not just display data.
  • Not everyone needs the science in depth but some do. Progressive disclosure served both without overwhelming either.

‍

Userflows & Wireframes

I started with rough sketches, just getting the flows out of my head and onto paper. From there I moved into Figma, keeping things lo-fi until the structure felt right before touching anything visual.

‍

Design & Prototypes

I started with the website after setting the brand tone, minimal, scientific and professional. I was responsible for keeping that tone consistent through font selection and brand identity.

‍

Live Project

With the website and mobile version done, the dashboard was next. This was the main portal where customers follow their reports and 90 day test cycles.

  • Every stage of the test cycle was designed to teach, so customers always know where they are and why it matters. The Mitome Guide and video tutorials made the kit and testing process easy to follow.
  • It improved customer retention and made it easier for Mitome to manage orders as the customer base grew.
  • I also built a custom design system for the dashboard, so developers could reuse components and keep the build simple.‍
Conclusion and Key-points
  • Mitome taught me the strongest proof point isn't data. It's a story from someone who felt exactly like them.
  • Post-purchase deserves the same care as pre-purchase. The sale isn't the finish line. That's where trust really gets tested.
  • Being challenged on every decision made me more precise. That's a good thing.
  • If I had more time I'd go back to that first dashboard screen before the kit even ships. That moment needed more and I know it now.

After working with many designers on our project, they all failed to execute the vision I had for our company until Vishal came along. Vishal was quick, great to work with, and we quickly connected on the company vision and design. He went above and beyond my expectations, and everything that was in my head he was able to execute into an even better design. So happy we were able to work together and I look forward to working with him again in the future!
Would definitely recommend to anyone who is type A and needs the project to be PERFECT because Vishal WILL deliver those results.
